nwts version 2.5

5/10/2017

nwts has been slowly maturing - after one year, refining the device operation, listening to customer feedback and adding new requested features has made us now reach version 2.5.
The following features are now available:
  • Improved NTP operation
    • NTP precision is now way under 0.5s - previous precision was only 1.5s
    • NTP code now has more resiliency on slow networks, with multiple (configurable) retries in case of delays or packet loss
    • nwts by default will now only send time packets to the clock when the last NTP update was done under 2 min (configurable) in order not to push any accidental clock skews of the ESP processor
  • Authentication
    • If using nwts in a non-controlled network, you can now enabled Basic Authentication - users will need a username and password to login into nwts
    • This feature by default is deactivated
  • Fixed date DST
    • In some countries, DST starts and ends at fixed calendar days, instead of the more common Rule based approach (example: last Sunday of March)
    • You can now set a fixed day for start/end of DST
  • Several improvements and corrections
    • Several small bugs and writing errors are now corrected

All units shipping from today will include version 2.5 by default

I  order to flash your device, please follow the instructions at the download page.

On the past few days I've been collaborating with Howard Constantine of Oscilloscope Clocks and Nixie Clocks at http://oscilloscopeclocknixiecrt.com/. Howard produces, as the name says, Oscilloscope and Nixie clocks and the GPS enabled models  are now certified as nwts compatible.

Howard has tested nwts with his Kickstarter Nixie Clock VII and it works with very minimal modifications.

nwts can be fitted under the clock. Howard's instructions couldn't be clearer:
  • The only modification needed to use nwts with Nixie6.7 (or OSC4.4) is to use a three pin header in place of the jack BU1. Use a small jumper wire to connect GND to the center pin. DATA connects to TX on Nixie6.7. On startup, just selectthe GPS autoset time/date feature as described.

Thank you Howard!
